Liverpool Arts: SPOTLIGHT: Rachael Christie, marketing & audience development manager, Action Transport Theatre

Rachael Christie, marketing & audience development manager, Action Transport Theatre in Ellesmere Port

Tell us a bit about your job Action Transport Theatre puts new writing and young people at the heart of its work, and is the only specialist new writing and dedicated young people’s theatre company locally. My role is to raise awareness of ATT’s work.

What inspires you? I didn’t have access to the arts until I went to university – such things apparently weren’t for a working-class girl from a North Liverpool comprehensive. Having come to the arts relatively late makes me more appreciative of the life-changing potential of each performance, film, exhibition, concert or piece of writing.

When were you last moved by culture? Seeing the reactions of my two little girls (aged three and a half and 17 months) to Little Girl Giant, her uncle and Xolo the dog in April – they had never seen anything like it, and to my eldest, it was totally real, which was incredibly moving to see.

Where do you see youself in five years? I work on a freelance basis and plan to continue to work alongside Merseyside’s arts’ organisations to develop their audiences and marketing activity.

What makes you laugh? My husband Iain and I share a very silly, surreal sense of humour, so when we’re not laughing at the funny things our children say and do, we’re making each other laugh.

What’s your hidden talent? If I didn’t work in arts marketing, I’d be a silversmith, creating exquisite silver rings set with gemstones.
